PAWS, JAWS, ENFORCING LAWS Episode 52 River Coffee Roasters 1240 Bay St. Florence OR 97439 This week we are back in Florence Oregon at River Roasters Coffee for Part 2 of Paws Jaws Enforcing Laws. We are in one of the best small towns in Oregon, move there now and beat the rush! This week that is again on display through our guests who are making the community better through their unique contributions to a community that should be on your radar. As soon as you turn on to Bay Street, look riverside and you will see River Roasters Coffee, a historic Everrrde outdoor motor repair building, turned into one of the most inviting, rustic, coffee shops on the PCH.. You can head out to their deck or stroll down the pier and watch the river boats in action. Facing the river and across the street you will encounter dozens of shops, galleries, and farm to table restaurants. From LA to Florence Oregon, Melanie Heard talks about her journey from tap dancing at the age of two with the original choreographer of Kids of the Kingdom at Disneyland to a full scholarship with the DC Kirov Ballet, and then on to the Joffrey Ballet Training Program. Why would she give up a fifty thousand dollar a year job to take on all the risk in opening up a theater of performing arts for kids? Her answer won’t surprise you after hearing her background story, and the generous nature of this wonderful small town. Is there anything wrong with not having everything at your fingertips? For people living in small towns the answer may be as simple as a gorgeous drive along Oregon's coast to a larger town isn’t all that bad. Janet Shelton our next guest, says stepping onto Bay Street Waterfront is like being on vacation! Step out on to the back deck at River Roasters and experience the flowing river, gorgeous bridge, seal watching, all while sipping your favorite beverage. This guest knows the full story. Following a unique injury, we have never had on the podcast, her doctor told he that her “ professional athletic “ career would be over! What could she possibly have done at 50 to elicit such a response from her caregiver? And at a “work “ function...trust us the irony will not be lost! Remember the days when a bus driver may have taken you home, on a daily basis in his car! What? For Rich Litchfield, if coffee is the second best reason for coming to River Roasters, what is the first? Were it not for this orthodontist crossing his legs the wrong way in a college class, he may  have ended up married to someone else, and never found his singing voice. After retirement, how did this man end up in Vietnam teaching orthodontia to, mostly women? What lesson has he learned about the war that he wants all Americans to hear. Hint: it doesn’t involve orthodontia. Our final guest Jordan Stone. He is the owner of the Waterfront Depot Restaurant, one of the best spots to experience northwestern cuisine, that we found on our trip on the PCH. He is truly an entrepreneur with a mission. How do you go from a degree in Sports Management to culinary mastery? Tune in this week to hear his journey. Coffee, as usual on our podcast, has something to do with it. While volunteering in Nepal was he in a  five star hotel?  What can we learn when we hear his story about sleeping on a wood palette with his guest family?   A small window into the level of poverty that so many people all over the world live with everyday. What could possibly go wrong?
