Twenty years on, this fantasy film based on a series of best-selling novels, started a cinematic phenomenon – and became a film franchise which has since spanned ten entries. Join us as we rewind to 2001, the year that the Wizarding World came to life in the very first Harry Potter film – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (also known as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone). Directed by Chris Columbus, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was based on J.K. Rowling's1997 novel of the same name. Produced by David Heyman with a screenplay by Steve Kloves, this is the first instalment of the Harry Potter film series. Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) learns on his eleventh birthday that he is the orphaned son of two powerful wizards and possesses unique magical powers of his own. He is summoned from his life as an unwanted child to become a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There, he meets several friends who become his closest allies and help him discover the truth about his parents’ mysterious deaths.
