Some may call it a parody, some may give it a cult classic status, and some may say it is the best Star Trek movie ever made. In a podcast that never gives up and never surrenders, we rewind to 1999.
Pre-2000, the science fiction community, nerd-culture, and science fiction fandom, were still distinct subcultures. They were outcasts. One movie celebrates all of this – Galaxy Quest.
Directed by Dean Parisot and written by David Howard and Robert Gordon, Galaxy Quest is the science fiction action comedy film that found a unique way to satire science-fiction movies and series, especially Star Trek and its fandom.
The movie depicts the cast members (Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman) of the cancelled 1970s space-adventure television series, Galaxy Quest, who are visited by actual aliens who believe the cast’s heroic on-screen dramas are historical documents of real-life adventures, and become involved in a very real intergalactic conflict.
