Let’s rewind to 1989 to Jeremiah S. Chechik’s directed Christmas Vacation which is the third instalment in National Lampoon’s Vacation series, and was written by John Hughes, based on his short story in National Lampoon magazine, “Christmas ‘59”.
As the holidays approach, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) wants to have a perfect family Christmas, so he pesters his wife, Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo), and children, as he tried to make sure everything is in line, including the tree and house decorations. However, things don’t go to plan, with the extended family rolling in – and Clark’s hick cousin, Eddie (Randy Quaid) and his family showing up unplanned and start living in their camper on the Griswold property. And with dreams of putting in a pool, Clark desperately waits for his Christmas bonus which still hasn’t arrived.
