Calling this movie a game-changer for comic book movies is an understatement. In anticipation of the latest (and final) instalment, Dark Phoenix, we're rewinding almost twenty years to the year 2000 to look back at where it all began - with X-Men. Directed by Bryan Singer, X-Men is the first live-action film adaptation of the Marvel Comics characters created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. X-Men depicts a world where a small population of people are mutants who possess superhuman powers. The film focuses on the mutants Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Rogue (Anna Paquin) as they are brought into a conflict between two groups of mutants that have radically different approaches to bringing about the acceptance of mutant-kind. We have the X-Men led by Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and the Brotherhood of Mutants led by Magneto (Ian McKellen).
