Before Bat-Fleck, before Nolan’s Dark Knight, and before bat nipples, Tim Burton’s rendition of the caped crusader took the character on a darker, gothic path – moving away from the lighter camp qualities of its predecessors. Rewind to 1989 where we were truly introduced to the DARK Knight in Batman. Reporter Alexander Knox (Robert Wuhl) and photojournalist Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger) begin to investigate rumours of a vigilante nicknamed "Batman" who is targeting the city's criminals. Batman – the alter ego of billionaire Bruce Wayne (Michael Keaton) who is on a mission to clear the streets after witnessing the murder of his parents as a child, with the help of trusted butler Alfred (Michael Gough). The psychotic Joker (Jack Nicholson) hatches a plan to kill Gotham’s citizens with a gas and kill them with laughter. Batman makes it his mission to put an end to the scheme.
