The year 1984 was an amazing year for cinema with the release of numerous life-changing and life-defining movies. Amongst them, a ludicrous and nutty comedy about a group of oddball misfits – Police Academy.
Directed by Hugh Wilson and produced by Paul Maslansky, Police Academy celebrates its 35th anniversary, and we’re rewinding to celebrate too. Due to a shortage of police officers and a rise is crime, the police force has a new policy – accept all willing recruits – effectively abolishing fitness requirements, educational levels, and medical standards.
An oddball assortment of characters enlist to join the force. Among the cadets are suave Carey Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg), the hulking Moses Hightower (Bubba Smith), the beautiful and wealthy Karen Thompsons (Kim Cattrall), and effects-generating Larvell Jones (Michael Winslow). Unable to simply kick them out, Lieutenant Thaddeus Harris (G. W. Bailey), in training the cadets, employs tactics to make them quit.
