Final Fantasy VII is regarded as a landmark game by, well... everyone! Created by Square Enix in 1997, it marked a departure from typical games of the era, with a sophisticated story, compelling characters and awesome music by the legendary Nobuo Uematsu. Remaking Final Fantasy VII in a modern game engine for a new generation of players and long-time fans has been a multi-year project for Square. The remake also reimagines the original music. I talked with Music Supervisor Keiji Kawamori and composer Mitsuto Suzuki about what they wanted to keep from Nobuo Uematsu's beloved original soundtrack, while updating the music to fit the modern take on the game. Thanks to translator Ben Sabin for facilitating the conversation! The Final Fantasy VII Remake rebuilt the game from the ground up, including new graphics and characters that were developed even further than in the original game. This Remake release is just the first in a planned series to re-create the entire original Final Fantasy
