JP Apples returns to the show to shed some more light on plant patenting, and the future of cannabis genetics. JP catches us up on all things in the cosmic crisp apple world- which carries an interesting patent that may eventually apply to the cannabis world. He goes on to explain the difference between a plant patent and a utility patent, and how chance mutations may or may not break legal holdings on various patented plants. The conversation then turns to overcloning of cannabis, and the difference between this phenomenon and the traditional definition of genetic drift. JP then explains what he thinks is the most fair approach to cannabis patenting, and what he would do if he were trying to protect his intellectual property in the cannabis space.
