In a time where in 2015, Texas fought and won to have their public school social studies books downplay the role of slavery in the civil war and omit the KKK and Jim Crow, it's imperative to discuss history not typically taught in public schools now more than ever. Enter Woke History! Each episode offers a quick recap of current events before diving into Woke History Lesson of the Day; discussing & dissecting important moments in American History directly related to people of color, such as the the story of Black Wall Street, Anna Mae Wong (the first Asian American movie star in the 30s), & the LA chinatown lynching.
In this pilot, Cynthia Kao & Nikki Ski cover the recent the surge of sexual harassment entering the public eye, the long history of publicly shaming women & victims of assault & abuse. Cynthia covers the invention of shaving as it pertains to women & the influence it’s had on gender norms & traditional grooming habits in the West. Nikki catches us up on the life & career of Anita Hill & her stint the public eye as a victim of harassment of Clarence Thomas & the divide it caused within the black community.
