Paris has spent billions getting the city ready ahead of the Olympic Games, cleaning up the streets and the river Seine and literally painting over the cracks in the subway.

But it has also engaged in what some are calling a policy of "social cleansing", moving thousands of homeless and socially disadvantaged people from the city centre before the crowds arrive for the games.
