So Spider-Man is headed back to Sony. Did Disney overplay their hand? Is Sony gonna be OK with the web-slingers on their own? When are we getting Spider-Man vs Venom vs Morbius vs Carnage vs Spider-Pig? Or… will Sony come back to the negotiating table a little while from now? We break it down from both perspectives as Disney & Sony part ways.
A bunch of trailers dropped this past week, and literally, while we recorded this very episode. So we broke them all down including the unique marketing of Marriage Story, the Oscar worthy make-up on Charlize Theron in Bombshell, why Donald Sutherland shouldn’t be an astronaut in Ad Astra, who’s in love with Isabelle Huppert in Frankie, why we should have guessed the plot of The Report, and what in the sam heck is Ed Norton doing in Motherless Brooklyn?!
The fall film festivals continue to fill out their line-ups, and we try to read into some of the selections at San Sebastian, London, etc. We also discuss what the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood international box office numbers might mean before discussing some movies that might not be Oscar contending films after all.
Finally, we debut one of those new segments we’ve been hyping. It’s Snubbable or Unsnubbable, and we close the episode with a conversation about how sure we are that Leonardo DiCaprio will be nominated for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Is he Snubbable or Unsnubbable? Get it. This is another fun way to preview each of the major Oscar categories, but this time, we’re speculating about the nomination process.
Let us know what you think. Is Leo Snubbable? Will Sony & Disney make nice? WTF is Ed Norton doing? A ton of awards season news dropped on our heads once again this week, and there seems to be more questions than answers. So do let us know your thoughts.
