Awards Season is fast approaching, and if we’re gonna continue the racing metaphors, the starter pistol fires in Gotham. So it’s with great anticipation that we breakdown the nominations for the 2019 Gotham Awards to begin the show. Will Hustlers, The Farewell & Waves gain momentum? Or will Marriage Story start to build its resume? Should we just be happy to enjoy the moment for some of these films? Or do we start to notice some early storylines to this season?
But the Gotham’s aren’t the only noms to discuss. We cover the British Independent Film Awards, & there are best comedy finalists for the European Film Awards with a few Oscar connections to be made. Then we discuss how the campaign trails all seem to stop at the Governors Awards, pay tribute to the worthy recipients, and then we enjoy the early buzz from first screenings of Little Women.
Mike1 doubles down on his takes regarding the Middleburg Film Festival, where they called the 2019 year in film the very best of the century. Rome picks an unlikely winner for its audience award, and the Producers Guild could be signifying a major change in perception regarding Netflix. Then we cover 4 Oscar Trailers for Les Miserables, The King, The Aeronauts, and Waves.
It’s another crowded field of topics for this Oscar Race Checkpoint, and we look both forward & backward to many of the films, filmmakers, and stars in contention. We can’t help but compare everything to Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and we look forward to doing so for well, EVER.
