Now that the World Junior Hockey Tournament has been cancelled because of COVID, could it be the tip of the iceberg for other sports? We talked to Greg Strong, Sports Reporter with the Canadian Press, on what he thinks. A new song by Kingston writer and poet, Steven Heighton, is encouraging us to pause and reflect as we head into the new year. We talked with him about New Year Song and his motivation for writing it. From supply chain issues to TimBeibs, there was no shortage of food news this year. Dalhousie University professor Sylvain Charlebois joined us to break down the top stories and offer some predictions for what's to come in the new year. Crow Shield Lodge is an Indigenous land-based education and healing space located in a wooded area just outside New Hamburg, Ontario. CBC's Kate Bueckert recently had the opportunity to visit to learn more about the lodge and why the people behind it say they're now looking to expand to a second location. Forty writers, including several Canadian poet laureates, turned their experiences throughout the pandemic into poetry for a new anthology. We heard more about Spike: Poems in the Time of Pestilence. COVID-19 case numbers have been surging in Canada as the Omicron variant of the coronavirus continues to spread. And with more people testing positive, more of us are having to isolate. So how do we handle a situation like that? We talked to Dr. Peter Lin. The rise in COVID cases has put many New Year's Eve plans in jeopardy this year, but 2021 doesn't have to end on a sour note. Jennifer MacKenzie, a Professional Home Economist in the Kawarthas, shared some meal ideas to help you make the most out of your stay-at-home New Year's Eve. It's been hard to find good in the world lately, but it's there. We hear from Thunder Bay residents about the little things that brightened up their year.
