A dramatic tale from almost a hundred years ago in Kawarthas history comes back to life on the silver screen. The story of the boys of Balsam Lake makes its way through Eastern Ontario this week..And the director tells us how the timing makes it more resonant than usual. May 9 is Victory Day in Russia, a national celebration commemorating the defeat of Nazi Germany. Russian President Vladimir Putin uses it to defend his war against Ukraine, but stops short of announcing a new escalation. It's been a month since the province lifted mask requirements for most settings...but not everyone felt it was time yet.
