Texas Tech was beat soundly by the Ole Miss Rebels in Houston to start the 2018 season. The Red Raiders were outplayed in all three phases of the game. Starting QB McLane Carter is injured and carted off the field in the first quarter and replaced by true freshman Alan Bowman.
The hyped defense wasn't anything to be excited about. They allowed a 200 yard rusher, the first for Ole Miss since 2010. The did force and recover one turnover.
The offense was iffy, even under Carter before he went down.
Penalties were down, but they were big, undisciplined - three targeting penalties. Several extended Ole Miss drives or ended Tech drives. Tech will host Lamar next weekend, so the offense and QB should get some time to develop some chemistry if Carter's injury is as serious as it looked. The defense will need to buckle down and the special teams...woof.
It may be time to start adjusting 2018 W/L predictions
