On The Rocks premiered at the New York Film Festival this week to strong reviews, the latest of which, is ours. So come for the non-spoiler tease of this movie review. But stay for all of the Oscars talk because like a Bill Murray serenade, it happens early, often, and always in this OSP.
Our past lives with the New York Film Festival demand we tell a strange few stories, and we discuss how we’ve enjoyed our virtual experience this year. We share our love for the careers of Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray before analyzing how she writes him so well. Then we dive into an Original Screenplay breakdown, including our takes on our favorites of the year thus far.
Now fitting this particular festival, the production values are sooo New York, and we wonder if a few have sneaky good chances at Oscars. So this spurs some conversation about the Best Original Songs of the year thus far, as well as some excellent Cinematography. Then we build into a full breakdown of the fields for both lead and supporting, and how Bill Murray’s performance may factor into this year’s best actor races.
If you enjoyed this episode, stay tuned for another spoiler free review of Nomadland, headed your way for early next week. We’ll also have a few full OSP’s coming with upcoming Netflix reviews of The Trial of the Chicago 7, Dick Johnson Is Dead, and Mank this October.
