British lawmakers this week have voted to approve in principle a bill to strip hereditary aristocrats of the right to sit and vote in the upper house. 

It's a right these nobles and their families have had for more than 700 years. The Labour Government says the decision will remove an “outdated and indefensible” relic of the past.
