Alan Gurvey and Kerri Kasem discuss mental health challenges and mental health awareness. Dr. Stu Gershman joins Alan and Kerri to talk about his family tragedy of October 29th, 2014, when his son Jesse took his own life. This weekend hundreds of hockey teams throughout Canada will use green tape on their sticks as symbols of mental health, all part of the #BuddyCheckforJesse initiative Stu started to raise awareness, promote open discussion in locker rooms, and destigmatize mental challenges among young people. At the outset of the show, attorney Colette Hughes and screenwriter Mark Bruce Rosin, who spearheaded the recently released film, 55 Steps, talk about the making of the true story, which focuses on Eleanor Riese’s plight to provide institutionalized patients the choice to refuse anti-psychotic medications. The film features Hilary Swank as Colette and Helena Bonham Carter as Eleanor. Don’t miss this important and eminently meaningful episode of Gurvey's Law.
