Marie Laveau was the famous New Orleans Voodoo queen, but she's probably not anything like you think! The first person in her family to be born free, she lived in the highly integrated (but still pretty racist) New Orleans society. As a young mother, Marie started doing hair to make a living and, just like in American Horror Story Coven (the only thing that show got right about our girl), she earned a reputation from there as a mystic. But it's also possible that she was just good at listening as the rich, white women gossiped. Join us as we drink a rum based cocktail (called... you guessed it! The voodoo queen) and get to know this mystical sometimes mythical woman! Queens podcast is part of Airwave Media podcast network.
