Welcome back to We Wonder: Lent. We’re in the second week of Lent: this week, we are going a little further down the road with Jesus in Matthew’s gospel, as he walks with his disciples to Jerusalem one last time. Along the road, we will listen to his words and imagine that we are there with him: that he is speaking directly to us. And we will pay attention, each day, to what we see, and hear, and feel. After all, every day is different; but we still need to meet and listen for God, in all that is happening to us. I wonder what we will notice, as we listen to the same words over and over, all week long? I wonder what we will have to say to God? I hope that you can listen every day this week, and let these words take deep root in your heart. I hope you can imagine yourself walking alongside Jesus on the path to Jerusalem as we make our way with him up to the cross. This week’s reading is Matthew 17:14-21. Jesus and his three closest friends have just come down from the mountaintop. Peter, James, and John saw Jesus flooded with glory, and they heard a voice from heaven tell them, “This is my Son, and I love him. Listen to him!” Now they have come back down to join the other nine disciples, and a large crowd that has come to them for help.
