Exit polls in the European Parliament elections show that there's been a surge in support for the far-right, leading French President Emmanuel Macron to call for snap elections in France.

Duncan McDonnell, Professor of Politics at Griffith University says it's "a poker move" from Macron, who is hoping voters will come out in larger numbers and back parties that aren't the far-right.
