For now, we had a blast chatting about a film that deserves conversation, more than its getting in fact. So we’re thrilled to find a hidden gem in Luce and hope you get the chance to check this movie out ASAFP. Until then, we have a non-spoiler review followed by that spoiler section for you all. We begin with a look at the extraordinary cast & crew and dive into all the movie specs. Then we discuss our theater going & expectations before putting the movie under the Oscar Lens as we review the production values, performances, and script, comparing Octavia Spencer’s terrific role to her recent nominations. The spoiler warning dance music plays, and we take on the plot in chronological fashion, highlighting all of our many bests and worsts along the way. One of us plays more of a devil’s advocate, while the other of us sings more praise, but we cannot stop once we get going. Do we have this movie down pat? Maybe not, and maybe we’re not meant to grasp this film in only one or two sittings with it. This conversation begs further study, but we’re glad to give you our initial reactions. If you enjoyed this format, we have a ton of movie reviews in our back catalog. This past spring & summer featured two new re-watches including our Films of Pixar and Tarantino series, and now we’re in the midst of The Joker Character Study with weekly additions discussing the best Joker performances coming to our feed. We’ve also enjoyed some terrific Oscar contending films like The Farewell, Rocketman, Apollo 11, OUATIH, Us, Endgame, etc. Let us know what you think? How did you feel about Luce?
