Following the All-Star break, the Angels announced that Shohei Ohtani has been cleared to start a throwing program and possibly attempt to pitch again this season. Oh boy...

The plague of injuries that has stifled the Angels' rotation has been well documented this season, and Ohtani was a major part of that. Fears of Tommy John surgery have subsided, especially as Ohtani continues in his progression. However, the expectation of Ohtani throwing on a mound again this season needs to be tempered. Halo fans only need to remember Garrett Richards to see how seemingly positive recovery after stem cell treatment can take a turn for the worst.
