Den Barber, a Wiradjuri man, ex-fire-fighter and park ranger, says it's time we reframed our fears about fire. While life in Australia often means watching unsettling bushfires roll out on our screens — and in some cases, horizons — fire doesn't have to be scary. In fact, manipulating fire was a pillar of Indigenous Australia's management of this continent since at least the last ice age… until of course, colonisation attempted to snuff it out. Barber joins Blueprint to share his vast and varied experiences in fire management from elders past and present, and how this can inform the protection of our towns and cities.
