Jung Byun Lau recently became a Math Teacher at Poe Middle School. Prior to teaching, she was a Senior Lead Data Scientist at Booz Allen Hamilton for 7 years where she analyzed national public education data and policies to improve public education support for military families. During her time at Booz Allen, she ran for Fairfax County School Board in 2019, served as an Education Pioneers Fellow in the New York City Department of Education and cofounded Embolden, a nonprofit that empowers underrepresented high school students to explore diverse careers through cost-free programs. She is passionate about using data in unexpected ways to improve large government organizations, especially in public education. Before moving to Fairfax in 2014, Jung graduated Carnegie Mellon University with her Bachelor of Science in Applied Math. In this episode, we talk about her journey into public education and her experiences teaching during COVID.
