Submit ReviewWith 24 hours before the Lakers' open camp, The Athletics' Sam Amick, Shams Charania and Bill Oram joined forces to write an extremely detailed breakdown of the Lakers' offseason, and all the different variables shaping events like the Russell Westbrook trade, a massive roster shakeup, and future plans for certain players. There's a lot from this opus to chop up, so the Kamenetzkys highlighted what they found most compelling and trenchant.
Hosts: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky
SEGMENT 1: According to The Athletic's various sources, the expected plan is currently for Anthony Davis to... start at center... with Wayne Ellington and Trevor Ariza filling out as the 2 and 3 alongside LeBron James and Westbrook. As usual, Andy is gonna need to see Davis in that role full-time (more or less) to believe it, but should that prove the case, there are obviously a ton of implications. Pretty much all of which are excellent.
SEGMENT 2: LeBron has long denied doubling as the defacto General Manager of his teams throughout the years, including the Lakers. Nobody has ever believed him, and according to this report, with good reason.
SEGMENT 3: The report details the Westbrook trade from the Wizards' perspective, and why they were more inclined to keep the point guard than many people assumed. Plus, only a one-year extension for Frank Vogel? What gives?
