Learn English Through Football Podcast: 2018-19 Week 6 – Tottenham vs Liverpool
DF: You are listening to
languagecaster.com’s football-language podcast. Welcome everyone to the podcast for all those interested in improving their English skills and who love
the beautiful game of football. My name is Damian and I’m currently in Málaga in the south of Spain where there has been some rain recently here. Spanish football fans are looking forward to a weekend of domestic football after the international break – the fans of the national team are very happy this weekI wonder what the weather is like in Tokyo with Damon? Hello Damon, how are things and are you going to be watching the football this weekend?
DB: Hiya Damian. Well, t’s a little bit rainy here too. But I hope Spain, despite the rain, is treating you well, and yes, I’ll be watching the football, including of course the big match in a few hours, Tottenham versus Liverpool. Mouthwatering. What other matches will you be watching?
DF: Well, I am off to La Rosaleda Stadium later on this evening to watch local side Málaga take on Córdoba in a second division match and this is a derby as both these teams are in the province of Andalusia – I was a regular visitor to La Rosaleda many years ago so I am looking forward to this, especially as the home side are top, they are unbeaten).
DB: Very nice. And I’m guessing that ‘rosa’, ‘rosa’ is rose, what does ‘leda’ mean?
DF: I think La Rosaleda means place of the roses, that’s the idea.
DB: So, what do we have on this week’s show?
Line-up
DF: Well, on this week’s podcast I start by asking a football-language question connected to the word ‘
unbeaten‘, before moving on to discuss some football news stories that emerged from the week in the good, the bad and the ugly, while we also look at some football language and this week we explain the phrase ‘
disputed call‘. We then finish off the show with our predictions competition and will feature three games from the Premier League – including the languagecaster
derby, Tottenham versus Liverpool. We will also be keeping you up to date with our predictions competition to see who is currently leading.
