Senior ministers in the Albanese government are insisting there are positives to take from the weekend election in Queensland - despite a swing of around 7 per cent swing driving Labor from power for just the second time in 35 years.

The Liberal-National Party will form majority government just weeks after Labor also lost office in the Northern Territory - as its domination of mainland state and territory governments starts to unravel.

Guest: Murray Watt, Employment and Workplace Relations Minister and Senator for Queensland.
