Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer and new Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield both met with the local media on Tuesday to discuss last week's trade.

Fitterer, in his conversation with the media, detailed the team's months-long pursuit of the former No. 1 pick and why he felt that the time was right to add Mayfield to the team's quarterback room. Fitterer maintained that the starting job isn't Mayfield's, instead that the competition between him and Sam Darnold is "open". Are the Panthers truly committed to staging a QB competition between the two?

Fitterer also revealed that the team is taking a "short-term view" when it comes to Mayfield's contract and not committing to him beyond this season. At least for now. Mayfield also met with the media detailing his tumultuous offseason while insisting that there is no animosity between him and his former employer, Cleveland.
