Submit ReviewThis week’s episode of Past, Present, Future, Live! features a conversation and performance with guitarist Jessica Dobson of Deep Sea Diver.
Jessica grew up around California’s indie rock scene and got signed to Atlantic Records as a solo act at age 19 before playing guitar with Beck, Spoon, The Shins, and many other groups. Jessica’s fierce guitar playing, which was her calling card with all of these bands, became even more of a focus with the formation of her band Deep Sea Diver.
Her most recent album, “Impossible Weight," came out in October, and features Sharon Van Etten on the title track. Jessica produced the record, and on the episode she talks about the difference between producing and playing, the evolution of her guitar playing, and the serendipity of working with Sharon Van Etten. Jessica also shares what she learned from Beck and James Mercer of The Shins before she struck out on her own, and the advice she often imparts to young musicians looking for their break.
After the interview, you can hear Jessica performing “Impossible Weight”, “Keep It Moving” and “Wearing Thin.” Videos of these and all Past, Present, Future, Live! performances are on the show page and on the Osiris Media Youtube Channel.
