What are some of the challenges and opportunities in private equity regarding value creation? According to Jay, value creation is a term that has been euphemistically used in the past to mean firing people. Of course, this is not what's happening or what it means in the industry today. Much has changed, and now more funds are determined to create value. Today, PE firms are focused on building better businesses by growing their ability to produce revenue, built on acquisitions, geographic expansion, repricing, or new product lines. However, this is not to say that cost reduction is not essential because it will always be a factor in almost every value-creation plan.
