It’s a Cardinal kinda week, astrologically speaking. Cardinal, for those who don’t know already, is a “quality,” a way of expression – a style, so to speak. The term is derived from the start of a season, and so, its means initiation, beginnings, leadership, starting, generating. With five planets in Cardinal signs - Cancer, Capricorn and Aries – it’s the sorta week where you really wanna be at the helm, navigating your own ship and calling the shots.

How about a nice Mercury Retrograde to start off your year? Don’t you just love it when the lack of communication decides to ruin your life here on earth? Of course, you could also look at this time as a gift, you know. 

 

Because, when planets Retrograde, they actually do mean well. It’s a time where we need to take a step back from all the activity and sit down, Take a break, stare at the ceiling. Get bored. Listen instead of talk. Think before we have something to say. Even a machine needs to switch off from time to time in order for important data or parts to rest and be processed. 

 

We humans are not machines, as Charlie Chaplin famously said. We need even more of that precious downtime! So, while you’re moaning about your plans being cancelled or something someone said, keep a little part of your mind open to the lesson. 

 

After all, Mercury in knowledge-seeking Aquarius is all about lessons, isn’t he? Retrograde here, Mercury will beg us to think about our people. Our tribe, our community. Many of us may start thinking about how we do friendship, where we belong. Perhaps we may think we don’t belong – but is that just a mental construct? Or are we really trying to fit a round peg into a square hole? 

 

These next few weeks can be great for us when it comes to aligning with people who share our goals, hopes and dreams. For reaching out to our community instead of self-isolating, for belonging somewhere. 

 

The Sun joins Jupiter in this freedom-loving sign, too. There are now four planets in Aquarius, and the push from the cosmos is to expand and grow our philosophies and dreams. To spread the word, to connect, learn through our friends, join with a cause. This item is about brotherhood for all and social responsibility. It’s about taking our gifts to society and giving what we have. Helping humankind, lifting each other up and inspiring one another. 

 

We will have to be careful of pushing things a bit too far, too. Sun and Jupiter together can go over the top, as with a square between the Sun and Uranus too, we can be the rebel without a cause. Expect things to go as you never thought them to, and try not to be too resistant to change this week. 

 

The Leo Full Moon counterbalances this Aquarian energy, and reminds us that we are an individual in this story, too. Remember that. 

 

Venus joins Pluto in Capricorn, bringing a deep week for love. Romance gets intense, powerful and possibly transformative, but it can also bring struggles and inequality. We may adopt a “know-it-all” attitude, or a bit of a God complex. Careful, now. Be kind, be aware of your shadow parts playing out a process, and arm yourself with wisdom. Don’t self-destruct, darling. Cut out the toxicity, but don’t create the toxicity.
