It seemed unthinkable even a year ago, but Indonesians look to have elected a former military strongman in the Suharto regime as the country's new president.

Unofficial counting after yesterday's national election shows Prabowo Subianto has almost 60-percent of the vote. And once a clear majority is officially confirmed, he will avoid the need for a runoff election in June.
