The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has struck down Mississippi’s lifetime felon voting ban. The court held that the Jim Crow-era law violates the 8th Amendment of the Constitution, which prohibits “cruel and unusual punishment.” What could this new legal justification mean for enfranchisement across the country? Preet speaks with Sean Morales-Doyle, Director of the Voting Rights Program at the Brennan Center for Justice. Stay Tuned in Brief is presented by CAFE and the Vox Media Podcast Network.
