Imani Perry's new book "Breathe" is a letter to her sons about the challenges and joys of being black in America.

Guest: Imani Perry

IMANI PERRY has written a letter to her two teenage sons about the challenges and joys of being black in America.  In her new book Breathe, Perry writes about the gift of parenting Issa and Freeman, the love and pride she feels, as well as her fears about racial injustice and inequality in America.  As a mother, she struggles with just how much of the world’s ugliness and unfairness she should share with them. Perry, a professor of African American studies at Princeton University, also writes about their family history and the African American legacy that they will continue.
