The ICJ is set to deliver an interim ruling in the genocide case against Israel,  deciding whether to grant South Africa's request for emergency measures to rein in - or even end - Israel's offensive in Gaza later today.

Professor of International Human Rights Law, Michael Becker says the legal test for genocide is "quite difficult", and the way the law has developed calls into question if the Genocide Convention "as it exists today, is fit for purpose". Israel denies the accusation of genocide and rejects the need for provisional measures.

Guest: Michael Becker, Assistant Professor of International Human Rights Law at Trinity College Dublin, former legal officer at the International Court of Justice
