It can be a scary and exciting starting the infant adoption process. A lot of us – even before we start the process, we can hit a major roadblock if you are ready to adopt and your spouse isn’t onboard yet. Couples may not be at the same point at the same time when major life events come along. One will be ready to get married, or move to another city or buy a house before the other is ready. There may not be reluctance, it could be just you simply aren’t there mentally and/or emotionally in the same way as your spouse. It may just take some time. It could be even more complicated if you are going through infertility treatments, hoping to have children and it just isn’t happening. It’s no mystery – men and women deal with things differently. So, it is also true with adoption, which is an extremely emotional topic to discuss. As with most major life events, communication is key when considering adoption. In this episode, we welcome back to the podcast Donna Nicholson from Bethany Christian Services. She was our guest back on episode #45. Today, she is going to help us figure out how to get on the same page as you begin your adoption journey. Donna has worked with children and families for more than 25 years. She earned a degree in Psychological Counseling in 1994 and acquired licensing as a professional clinical counselor in 1997. While working towards her master’s degree, she learned of her love for children. She began her career as a Child and Family Therapist working mainly with families involved with State Foster Care. Over 11 years ago, she joined the team of Bethany Christian Services as a Branch Director in the State of Missouri. She has recently been promoted to the National Director of Adoption Services. Her passion is serving expectant parents and adoptive families to the best of her ability. Donna does a fantastic job sharing her wisdom, experience and ideas about how to get your husband (or wife) onboard with plans to build your family through adoption. So we are giving you the tips and resources to help you work together and get on the same page. You can contact Donna at Bethany Christian Services or email her at dnicholson@bethany.org What you will learn about in this episode: * Why it is important for spouses to be on the same page when starting the infant adoption journey. * What is the difference between ‘on the same page’ and ‘onboard’ when it comes to building your family through adoption. * What guys can specifically do to get onboard and involved in the adoption process. * What women can do for their husband to help them understand and accept adoption as a great way to build your family. * Stories about real couples who have worked through differences and successfully adopted babies. * Donna shares her tips for hopeful adoptive couples so they can get onboard together and start their infant adoption journey. * How to contact Donna and Bethany Christian Services (adoption agency) to see if they can help you! * AND MUCH MORE!
