HT1270 - The First Is Rarely the Best

One of the most common things I see in photography forums is someone showing the first shots from their new camera or with their new lens. I understand the enthusiasm for the new gear, but what is that first shot supposed to tell us? When was the last time you did something for the first time that turned out to be the best you ever did?
