The federal government will cap the number of international students coming into the country, to ease stress on housing and suppress growing migration numbers.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Melbourne says it's "too early to tell" what impact this will have on the University's bottom line, but says there needs to be a "holistic approach" to address the housing crisis.
