We react to the breaking news about a lawsuit between Scarlett Johansson & Disney over her backend Black Widow money. Then we dive into some huge Oscar trailer for House of Gucci and King Richard. Are we getting our first looks at some future Oscar winners? Or will these films be overstuffed and overwrought?
Then we continue to break down some intriguing new trailers for The Card Counter, Lamb, The Night House, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Vivo. Who does Oscar Isaac remind us of with his haircut in Paul Schrader’s latest? How inappropriate and crude are we willing to get in our speculation over Lamb? What is a giallo? Is Night House a giallo? And how did a Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer review start Rudd War I? It’s perhaps our most fun trailer thoughts segment of the summer, and you don’t want to miss it.
We otherwise dive into the lineup for the Venice Film Festival. Unfortunately, history repeats itself with some Venezia demographics, and we must criticize them once again because their recent history has been so impactful to the Oscars, etc. With that being said, we’re able to dissect their lineup and update you on some films we’ve already introduced like The Power of the Dog from Jane Campion, Pedro Almodovar’s Madres Paralelas, Official Competition, The Card Counter, and Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana in Spencer. Then we introduce you to a host of new entries to the season like Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter, Kate Hudson in Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon, and Tim Roth in Sundown.
The TIFF announcements continue as we further our previews of A24’s The Humans with Steven Yeun, we introduce The Good House with Sigourney Weaver and Kevin Kline, and Wolf with a shirtless George MacKay.
Then we talk about the overall film release and awards season calendars. Clayton Davis and company reported on some films that will not be hitting screens until 2022, and we begrudgingly must take them off our oscar lists. We continue our story from the last episode about the new Exorcist trilogy that’ll begin in 2022 from Universal, and we update you on the awards season schedule.
