Mark Chapman presents a special edition of the Football Daily which celebrates the life and legacy of England’s World Cup winning goalkeeper Gordon Banks, who has died at the age of 81. A League Cup winner with Leicester City and Stoke, Banks was named FIFA goalkeeper of the year six times and earned 73 caps for England. BBC football correspondent John Murray, former England and Manchester United goalkeeper Alex Stepney, Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland and The Times’ chief football writer Henry Winter pay tribute to the man who is arguably “one of the world’s greatest goalkeepers.” They reflect on how Banks’ helped England to World Cup victory in 1966, his iconic save to deny Pele from scoring in the 1970 World Cup and how as a “gentleman” he’s had a lasting legacy on the sport.
