The New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 to salvage the final game of their three-game series. Gerrit Cole bounced back from an iffy five-inning outing against the Pirates to throw eight innings of one-run ball on Thursday night. He also struck out nine and possibly nailed down the AL Cy Young Award. Stacey and Steve talk about that. Plus, Jake Bauers got the scoring started with a three-run jack to put the Yankees up 3-0 early, and Estevan Florial and Aaron Judge added RBI doubles to give the Yankees five runs, which they would need because of a not-so-great start to the ninth inning from Clay Holmes and a couple of not-so-great throws from Gleyber Torres. In sad news, the Somerset Patriots’ season ended when the Binghamton Rumble Ponies eliminated them on Thursday night. The offense didn’t show up in the two-game sweep, but friend of the show Richard Fitts had a strong six-inning start with eight strikeouts. Then, it’s FanMail Friday!
