This month marks the 40th anniversary of Sean S. Cunningham's FRIDAY THE 13TH, a film that was created to capitalize on the success of John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN, but ended up inspiring a slew of imitators itself.

This week, we're going all the way back to 1980 to look at the film that kicked off one of the biggest horror franchises of all time. FRIDAY THE 13TH was a product, designed for one thing: to make money. Little did the filmmakers behind it know, but it would be the spark that would ignite the slasher movie craze that would last for a good chunk of the 1980s.
