Today’s reading is from Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, chapter 13 verses four through 7. As we listen, can I open my heart to what the Holy Spirit might want me to hear? Are there any words or phrases that specially stand out to me today?
4 Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not want what belongs to others. It does not brag. It is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor other people. It does not look out for its own interests. It does not easily become angry. It does not keep track of other people’s wrongs. 6 Love is not happy with evil. But it is full of joy when the truth is spoken. 7 It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up. (NIRV)
God, we love because you first loved us. Root us in your love, so that we are like trees planted by living streams. And as we receive all that you give, help us to love not just with our words but with our whole lives, so that everyone will know we are your children. Send your love through us into this world you have made. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
