Submit ReviewIn 2018, Washington voters approved a police reform measure called Initiative 940. The new law did multiple things, including mandating that all law enforcement officers in the state take a certain number of hours of violence de-escalation training.
We’re at around the halfway point for the time set to reach compliance and departments as a whole don’t appear to be on target. A July report showed only 28 percent of officers so far have taken the in-person part of that training.
