The Joker stories are the centerpiece. Today, we begin with our initial non-spoiler thoughts on Judy before getting into a debate of Snubbable or Unsnubbable over Renee Zellweger. She is the front runner. But is it warranted? And will she go the distance come red carpet time? Make sure you let us know what you think. We then discuss all of the stories surrounding the new Joker movie. From an on set “altercation” to the more serious letter from Aurora & the increased police presence in theaters across the country this weekend, from the lack of press at the premiere to the strange comments from director Todd Phillips, we are now worried for this movie. There’s certainly a debate to be had about the moral accountability of films, and we’ll wait to see it before diving into that one. But we certainly frame things. So do stay tuned for our next episode where we’ll be reviewing Joker in an OSP / Joker Character Study episode. We chat about the Golden Globes & Tom Hanks, the Gotham Awards & Laura Dern, and then we review a bunch of Oscar trailers. 1917 released a making of featurette, where we discuss the merits of real-time films. The new Frozen 2 trailer wows us, & we compare the new song to those of the first film. Then we discuss Clemency, Uncut Gems, Ordinary Love, & Burning Cane. Fantastic Fest just wrapped up last weekend, and we profile a bunch of the Oscar contending films that took part in Austin’s awesome film festival (that we need to go to in coming years). Jojo Rabbit, The Lighthouse, Dolemite Is My Name, Parasite, & Knives Out all get updated profiles from us here. Then we close with a few more stories about Clint Eastwood’s Richard Jewell, and the new deal between Jordan Peele & Universal.
