The Carlos Correa saga continues, but it appears as though he won't be signing with the San Francisco Giants. Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said late last week that the chances of a deal materializing between Correa and the SF Giants were "pretty unlikely." The Giants were mere hours away from introducing Correa a few weeks ago when they spotted something wrong during his physical. The process was supposed to be routine, but the SF Giants found something that was a serious problem. The same issue was found after the Mets had their physical with Correa a few days later and the deal is still pending.

Without Correa, the Giants' offseason has been decisively disappointing, even though they've added several quality players. One area where they still need to add is in the infield. Specifically, they don't appear well-equipped defensively at several infield spots. They don't necessarily have any above-average defenders for third base. The Giants don't have a true backup to Brandon Crawford at shortstop. Someone like the Marlins' Joey Wendle, or the Padres' Ha-Seong Kim, would fit the San Francisco Giants perfectly. Those players are reportedly available in trade discussions.

What are the Giants' options in the bullpen? They signed Taylor Rogers to a three-year deal, but they still have work to do. Andrew Chafin stands out as an intriguing option. There are a lot of free agent releivers out there, but it's more quantity over quality at this point. The Giants may have to turn to the trade market to pick up strong relievers if they don't sign Chafin. They've also been connected to Japanese pitcher Shintaro Fujinami, a Scott Boras client, who's another intriguing option for the 'pen.
