Submit ReviewFormer food delivery cyclist turned community advocate, Xiaodeng Chen joins Sara and Kyle this week to talk about the Biking Public Project in New York City, an organization working to expand bicycle advocacy by reaching out to underrepresented bicyclists including women, people of color, and delivery cyclists. Xiaodeng is a student of Environmental Psychology at Brooklyn College and applies community-focused research methodologies and surveys to better understand the reality of hardships delivery cyclists face as restaurant employees, as users of NYC’s roadways, and as residents of one of the world’s most diverse cities. Xiaodeng’s personal experience of immigrating to the U.S. and working as a delivery cyclist for several years plays a key role in his understanding of what is needed in order to conduct thoughtful and compassionate outreach to this community of people riding bikes. The Bike Nerds Podcast is sponsored by Saris Cycling Group.
