Inside today's Locked on Canadiens:

Montreal stunned the hockey world on Thursday by announcing that they had traded for Calgary Flames' centre Sean Monahan, and a conditional first-round pick in the NHL Draft. The move comes on the heels of the Flames signing free agent Nazem Kadri, and the Canadiens reaped a strong reward in the form of another first-round pick as Calgary needed to get rid of Monahan's contract. Given that Monahan is still recovering from off-season hip surgery and likely won't play until November, where does he even fit in Montreal's lineup?

So the question becomes, how did Kent Hughes manage to pull this trade off with no cap space? The good news is that Hughes was able to plan his LTIR space accordingly, and will be able to fit Monahan onto the roster without much issue. The bad news is that it comes at the expense of Carey Price's health, as the Canadiens goaltender will not start the season able to play, and will likely never play again barring major surgery on his knee. It's an unceremonious end to the career of a franchise icon, and the hosts discuss their feelings around it, and what's next for the Canadiens.
